Yoga Teacher in a Box

I’m super excited to introduce you to Yoga Teacher in a Box: a little deck of cards and philosophy book with big ambitions. When I was invited to write this, I was determined it would be different from other yoga books. I wanted it to show ‘real’ bodies: all different sizes and shapes, genders, ethnicities, abilities. So that it embodies the idea that yoga is for every body, no one is excluded.

Everyone is welcome, and the practices reflect deeper internal enquiry rather than the external pose. All the practises are invitational rather than prescriptive, with plenty of possible variations to suit your body, energy and time, and reflections to guide you to a more introspective space.

I’ve been getting some great feedback from those of you who’ve received your pre-ordered copies, about how much you love the illustrations, how useful it is to develop your own home practice and how great the format is – thanks so much! If you haven’t got your copy yet, you can buy from your nearest indie bookstore or online at most stores.

Ayurveda for menopause

Indie Foolhea

Ayurveda is a vast and ancient science that provides a solid foundation to live well in all phases of life. In alignment with the seasons, elements and your unique makeup, we can find balance wherever we are.
Menopause is one of many changes that make up the female reproductive system across a lifetime. By looking at the history of your cycle, we can start to see what menopause may look like and adjust accordingly. This time is all about soothing symptoms and nourishing the body to help this transition flow more smoothly through nutrition, lifestyle, herbs and therapies.

On November 16, Indie Foolheea (she/her), will be joining our regular Yoga for Menopause session to talk about how Ayurveda can help you on your transformational journey through this life change.

Indie is a Yoga and meditation guide, Ayurvedic Lifestyle consultant and Therapist. Her work is informed by sharing from the roots of Yoga and Ayurveda to our lives now. She also creates spaces for people of the global majority to be seen, heard and to rest. She believes that self care and collective care are inherently linked and shares with this in mind.

Indie shares a variety of practices beyond asana including Pranayama, mantra, meditation, marmas and mudras. Whilst also starting her own Ayurvedic practice supporting people through nutrition, herbs, lifestyle and bodywork.

If you would like to join this or our regular sessions, every Wednesday, 7.30-9pm upstairs at the Hanover Community Centre, email.

Yoga for strength

Really excited to be restarting this weekly class at Boulder Brighton, from Tuesday September 6, 9.30-10.30am. In this playful, focussed class we will explore strength, stamina, mobility and flexibility to complement your climbing – although you don’t need to be a climber to come along. There will be the opportunity to work on particular areas, such as hip flexibility or core strength, as well as working with injuries.

Cost is on a sliding scale of £10, £5 or £0 according to your ability to pay, as both myself and the lovely management at BB are keen for this to be an accesible, community-building class. No previous experience or level of flexibility necessary.

Brighton Yoga Festival

Leo doing yoga in Ovingdean

Come and join me 5.50-6.35pm Saturday 23 June at Brighton Yoga Festival, St George’s Church, Kemptown. I’ll be in the Red Zone, sponsored by Infinity Foods and Brighton Natural Health Centre. As usual, I’ll be teaching an intuitive, expansive and joyful practise that empowers you to listen in to your body and breath with respect and kindness. Simply come along on the day, paying what you can, and enjoy a day of fabulously varied yoga classes.

New year classes

So welcome to 2022! How are you? Feeling ready and motivated or sluggish and tired? To be honest, it feels like a lot of us (myself included, we all had Covid for Christmas, the joy!) are low on energy. With this in mind, classes will be gentle, expansive and responsive. We’ll be focussing on the breath as key to bringing in new energy and releasing stagnation. We’ll explore self-massage techniques to relieve aches and pains and start from the ground up, moving in ways that restore rather than deplete. Most importantly, however you are, you are welcome. Whether you’re new to yoga, restarting a lapsed practise or continuing, join a warm and joyful community that will lift your spirits and increase your feelings of connection. So look forward to seeing you.
